Faith-Based Therapy
My Perspective on Faith & Psychology
Wherever you are at as you start therapy, my hope is to meet you there.
For those who’ve experienced spiritual abuse…
I think it’s important to acknowledge that the intersection of faith and psychology can be complex and deeply personal. Spiritual abuse, misuse, and trauma are real and can have devastating effects on mental health. Therefore, what is encouraging and uplifting for one person, can feel triggering to another person. With this in mind, I do my best to avoid platitudes, and instead seek to deeply understand your story and help you make sense of how you got here and where you want to go from here.
For those who are not Christians…
If you are nonreligious or belong to a religion other than Christianity, my goal is to respect and more fully understand your values and beliefs as I help you navigate healing from anxiety & trauma. I like to use the example of going to see a doctor due to breaking your leg. Your doctor may profess to be a Christian, but the purpose of your appointment is to address your symptoms and heal the broken bone. In the same way, our sessions will center on helping you heal from trauma and cope with anxiety. You will not experience pressure to convert, rather you will experience the best therapy I can provide, as I view it not only as my professional & ethical duty, but as my calling to help others heal from trauma and anxiety.
For the resolute Christian…
If you are a Christian who desires to experience Christian trauma & anxiety therapy, I would be honored to incorporate prayer, the Bible, and your relationship with Jesus into our sessions. My intention is to incorporate this in ways that are personal to you. I have found that knowing God and his character more deeply can have profound effects on healing past trauma, feeling His support and love in the present, and restoring hope for your future.
For the struggling, doubting Christian…
If you are a Christian who is struggling with their faith, as is often the case when navigating difficult or traumatic seasons of life, I hope you will find a safe place to explore your beliefs and practice curiosity. My goal is to allow room for your doubts, anger, and disappointment, believing for you that God is steady enough to hold each emotion you carry. You will not feel pressure from me to end up at any certain place, but I hope you will feel the comfort of a fellow traveler who trusts that God is doing a unique work in you and He will carry it on until completion.
